Bertrand Eaton was born in 1895 at Rowthorne, Derbyshire, he was baptised on 16th February 1896 at Ault Hucknall, Derbyshire, he was the son of William a colliery weigh clerk, and Elizabeth Jane Eaton née Wood of 1 Church Street, Pleasley. William was born in 1854 Elizabeth Jane Wood was born in 1855 both were born in Rowthorne, they were married on 1st September 1873 at the parish church St Ann's, Nottingham they had 14 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at The Homestead, Pleasley Hill, Mansfield, William 57 yrs is a colliery weigh clerk, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Jane 56 yrs and 4 of their children including Bertrand 15 yrs an apprentice in a tin works

Military History

Private Bertand Eaton enlisted and was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the Labour Corp. He died on 10th February 1919 of pneumonia and was buried at Pleasley Hill Cemetery.
