Family History

Francis Joseph Wright was born in 1896 he was the son of the late Francis a coal miner hewer and Mary Ann Wright née Billings of 3 Mount Street, Mansfield. Francis was born in 1869 at Moira, Leicestershire, he died in 1919 aged 50 yrs, Mary Ann Billings was also born in 1869 at Newhall, Debrbyshire, they were married on 20th January 1890 at Repton, Derbyshire, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 46 Albion Street, Mansfield, Francis 42 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 42 yrs and 5 of their children, Francis Joseph is 15 yrs and an apprentice baker.

Military History

Private Francis Joseph Wright enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 2/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died on 26th September 1917 and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
