George Walter Bradshaw was born in 1890 he was the son of William a coal miner and Almina Leonora Bradshaw née Taffender of Chesterfield William was born in 1853 at Brampton, Almina Leonora Taffender was born in 1867 at Sheffield they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield registration district, they had 5 children. George Walter married Mary Ann Hayes born 2nd September 1891 they were married 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield Registration district, they had the following children, George, born 6th November 1910, Frances Ethel born 19th February 1914 and Leonard, born 20th September 1916 they lived at 21 Pondwell, Brimington and later 26 Hall Road, Brimington. Commencing 15th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.
Private George Walter Bradshaw enlisted at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was later transferred to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment in France. He was killed in action, 19th October 1917, whilst serving in the line near Zillebeke, Belgium. Buried/Commemorated : Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 47. Row C. Grave 11.
Private George Walter Bradshaw is also commemorated on the following local memorial Brimington War Memorial Gates, Broom Gardens, Brimington, Derbyshire. His brothers Private Thomas Bradshaw, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and Private John Bradshaw, 11th Battalion Highland Light Infantry, also fell in the Great War. (neither of whom are recorded on the Nottinghamshire Roll of Honour)
