Military History

Lance Corporal Sydney Hemsley, enlisted on 22nd March 1915 at Mansfield, he was aged 20 yrs and 283 days he served with 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 15th September 1915 and he landed in France on 31st December 1915 , he was wounded on the Somme, 13th September 1916. Discharged as no longer physically fit for service on 18th January 1917, he died on 19th November 1919. Awarded Silver War Badge No F/256.
