Harold Neil was born in 1887 he was the son of Joseph a sawyer and Elizabeth Neild née Halsall of Creswell, Derbys. Joseph was born in 1852 at Halewood, Lancashire, Elizabeth Halsall was born in 1851 at Prescot, Lancashire, they were married in 1872 at Prescott, Lancashire, they went on to have 9 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 49 Baker Street, Creswell Elizabeth Neild 60 yrs and married is living with 2 of her children, Harold 24 yrs a coal miner hewer and Arthur 21 yrs a coal miner hewer. Harold married Mary Elizabeth Teasdale (born 6th January 1886) in 1916 at Sunderland, they lived at 1 Park Road, Southwick on Wear, Sunderland, Commencing 2th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 16 shillings and 3 pence a week.

Military History

Sergeant Harold Neild enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sunderland. He served with the 9th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he landed in France on 21st May 1915, he died of wounds on 23rd March 1918 and is buried at Grand-Serucourt Britis Cemetery, France.
