Family History

Frank Valentine Harrison was born in Boston in 1890 he was the son of William Walpole and Annie Rainer Harrison née Valentine. The family moved around a lot but in 1901 the family were living at 72 Bridge St Worksop which would explain why Frank was attending the grammar school in Mansfield. William Walpole was born in 1863 at Ketton, Rutland, Annie Rainer Valentine was born in 1867 at Worksop, they were married in 2889 their marriage was recorded in the Worksop registration district, they had a further son Sydney Walpole born 1892 at Grimsby. In 1911 the family are living at 10 Princess Road, Levershulme, Manschester , William Walpole 48 yrs is an operator with the national telephones, he is living with his wife Annie 44 yrs and their 2 sons Frank Valentine 20 yrs a merchant and Sydney Walpole 18 yrs a storekeeper.

Military History

Corporal Frank Valentine Harrison enlisted on 25th September 1914 at Manchester, giving his age as 24 yrs and 3 months he was a clerk. on 29th September he joined his battalion 15th Royal Scots at their depot at Edinburgh. He was promoted to Corporal on 8th January 1916 and was embarked from Southampton on the same date. He went missing on 1st July 1916 the first day of the battle of the Somme and was later confirmed killed in action on that date he is buried at Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers La Boisselle.
