Bertram Anthony

Bertram Anthony was born in 1890 at Codnor Park and was the son of the late Edward a collier and Sarah Anthony née Brown of New Street, Underwood. His father Edward was born in 1861 at Codnor Park and died in 1910 aged 49 yrs, his mother Sarah Brown was born in 1864 also at Codnor Park, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration disitrict, they went on to have the following children, Arthur b1885 Codnor Park, John William b1888 Codnor Park, Bertram b1890 Codnor Park Joseph b1893 Codnor Park, Clara b1895 Codnor Park, Beatrice b1897 Westwood, William b1898 Westwood, Wilfred b1900 Westwood, Lucy May b1903 Westwood and Percy Anthony b1908 Selston. In the 1911 census the family are living at New Street, Underwood and are shown as Sarah 47 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, John 23 yrs a coal miner loader, Bertram 21 yrs a coal miner loader, Joseph 18 yrs a coal miner loader, Clara 16 yrs working at home, Beatrice 14 yrs a scholar, William 13 yrs a scholar, Wilfred 11 yrs a scholar, Lucy May 8 yrs and Percy 3 yrs of age. Bertram married Jessie Bamford on 4th June 1917 at the parish church at Heanor, they lived at 57 Thorpe Road, Heanor Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shilling and 9 pence a week.
