He was the son of Charles and Mary Ann Wildsmith of 31 Park Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. He was the brother of Gersham killed in action 17/10/1918 and William Wildsmith killed in action 30/9/1917. He was also the brother of Edgar and Ethel Wildsmith.
