Family History

Father Henry Hill. Mother: Sarah Ann Hill, born in 1860 in Arnold. She was a widow and worked as a lace dresser. Sister: May. born in 1894 in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and working as a lace dresser. The family lived at 3 West Court, Mansfield Road, Nottingham before moving to 21 Milk Street, Glasshouse Street Nottingham.

Military History

Hill volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France. The battalion was involved in fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres. They held positions near the village of Westhoek which were heavily shelled prior to a German attack. Casualties were high and included Pte. Hill who was seriously wounded , and who died on 16/08/1917. He was buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
