Family History

John Marshall was born in 1880 the son of James a frame work knitter and Sarah Rebecca Marshall née Scothorne. James was born 1852 at Huthwaite, Sarah Rebecca Scothorne in 1856 at Kirkby in Ashfield. Married on 29th December 1872 at St Mary’s Church, Sutton in Ashfield, they went on to have 15 children 3 dying in infancy or early childhood. In 1911, James, Sarah and six of their children lived on Fairfield Road, Sutton in Ashfield. John married Mary Ann Allin (born 1885 at Sutton in Ashfield) on 31s May 1909 at St Mary’s Church Sutton in Ashfield. In 1911, they lived on Eastfield Side, Sutton in Ashfield with their eleven month old son Harry .

Military History

John Marshall enlisted at Nottingham. He was one of two men from the battalion killed on June 11th 1916 in trenches near Neuve Chapelle. He is buried in Le Treport Military Cemetery, Plot 2 Row K Grave 7.
