Family History

Alfred Alltoft was born in 1893 the son of railway guard Arthur and Sarah Alltoft née Palmer of 7, Harrogate Street, Netherfield. Arthur was born in 1859 at Barton upon Humber, Sarah Palmer was born in 1860 at Car Colston, married in 1879 at Nottingham they had 8 children all were born in Netherfield. In 1911 the family are living at 7 Harrogate Street, Netherfield, Arthur 52 yrs a railway guard is living with his wife Sarah 51 yrs and 4 of their children including Alfred 18 yrs a fruit salesman Alfred married Edah Elizabeth Riley (born 15th June 1893) in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at Stafford House, Meadow Road Netherfield Nottingham and had a son Joseph Alfred Alltoft born 4th October 1912. With effect from 28th October 1918, Alfred's widow was awarded a weekly pension of 20 /5d.

Military History

Alfred Alltoft enlisted at Carlton, initially serving (43153) with the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action and buried at Aveluy Wood Cemetery, (Lancashire Dump), Mesnil-Martinsart, France (grave ref. II. I. 3).
