Family History

Arthur Markillie was born in 1897 the son of Frederick a railway goods guard and Eva Octavia Gertrude Markillie née Warner and the brother of Lillian, Maud, Eva Gertrude, Frederick William, Albert Ernest and Donald Markillie. Frederick was born in 1869 in Lincolnshire, Eva Octavia Gertrude Warner was born in 1876 at Walkdern, Hertfordshire, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 8 children. In 1911 the family lived at 36 Dunstan Street Netherfield Nottingham, Frederick is 42 yrs and is a railway goods guard, he is living with his wife Eva 35 yrs and their 8 children, Arthur is 14 yrs and is a lace hand.

Military History

Private Arthur Markillie enlisted at Carlton whilst residing at Netherfield, he initially served with the service number 54294 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds on 1st October 1917 whilst serving with the 177th company Machine Gun Corps and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery
