Albert Phillips Taylor was born in 1888 at Greasley and was the son of John a coal miner and his first wife Mary Taylor nee Phillips of 4 Hardstaff Homes Priory Road Mansfield Woodhouse Nottinghamshire. His father John was born in 1856 at Greasley, his mother Mary Phillips was born in 1855 they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Newark registration district, they had the following children, Sarah b1882 Greasley, William b1886 Greasley and Albert b1888 Greasley His mother Mary Phillips died in 1892 at Mansfield and his father married his second wife Sarah Eliza Daykin in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, In the 1911 census his parents are living at 44 Mount Street, Mansfield and are shown as John Taylor 55 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Sarah Eliza 56 yrs none of their children are living with them
Private Albert Phillips Taylor served as PHILIPS he enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Mansfield, serving with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He served for six years in India. He was killed in action on 20th October 1914 during the attack on Ennetteres, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
