Cecil Edwin Dickman was born in 1888 at Nottingham and was the son of William Edwin a secretary to a furnishing company and Christiana Dickinson née Rogers of 8 Sophie Road Nottingham. His father William Edwin was born in 1864 at Nottingham as was his mother Christiana, they were married in 1886, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district. They had a further child a daughter Dorothy born 1890 also in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 8 Sophie Road, Nottingham and are shown as William Edwin Dickman 47 yrs a secretary to a furniture company, he is living with his wife Christiana 47 yrs and their children Cecil Edwin 23 yrs a clerk to a lace dresser and Dorothy 21 yrs no occupation listed His probate was proven on 29th October 1915 in Nottingham, it shows him as Cecil Edwin Dickman of 8 Sophie Road, Nottingham a Private in H.M. Army died 30th July 1915 in France, his effects of £206, 16 shillings and 2 pence were left to William Edwin Dickman a clerk in the war relief office.
Rifleman Cecil Edwin Dickman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed ion France on 21st May 1915 and was killed in action on 30th July 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
