John William North was born in 1881 at Skegby, he was baptised on 30th October 1881 at Skegby and was the son of the late John a coal miner hewer and Kate North née Miller. John was born in 1852 in Shropshire, Kate Miller was born in 1851 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration district. John William married Sarah Ann Cook (born 11th August 1881 ) in 1903 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived at 10 Bentinck Street, Sutton in Ashfield and went on to have the following children Leslie born 8th November 1903, Catherine Doris born 22nd August 1905 and Ethel North born 2nd April 1908. In 1911 the family lived at IO Bentinck Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire John William 29 yrs is a stone masons labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 29 yrs and their 3 children, also living with them is Kate North a widow 59 yrs Commencing 28th April 1919 his widow is awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week. .

Military History

Private John William North enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 and is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery, France. Plot 5. Row I. Grave 2.
