Military History

Overnight 6th/7th July 1944, thirteen 70 Sqdn Wellingtons attacked Feuerbrunn Aerodrome, near Foggia Tortorella, Italy. Lawrence Freyne was the navigator aboard Q JA471, one of ‘five aircraft missing from the operation - possibly shot down on leaving the target where much fighter activity and falling aircraft was reported’ (70 Sqdn ORB TNA AIR27-617-13-1). Lost along with Freyne were the Pilot/Captain Colin Albert Harris (1492811), Bomb Aimer Fred Hardy (590866), Air Gunner Haydn Allen (1896209) and Wireless Operator George Hubert Robinson (1579827).KLAGENFURT WAR CEMETERY Coll. grave 8.
