Family History

Charles Hibbert was born in 1896 he was the son of Matthew Butler a frame work knitter and Elizabeth Hibbert née Brandreth of Catherine Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Matthew Butler was born in 1869 , Elizabeth Brandreth was born in 1865 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 18th July 1891 at St Mary's Sutton in Ashfield, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 10 Princess Street, Mansfield, Matthew 42 yrs is a framework knitter he is living with his wife Elizabeth 46 yrs and their 6 children including Charles 15 yrs a shoemaker.

Military History

Private Charles Hibbert enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and landed in France on 17 February 1915. He was killed on 16 April 1918 and is buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery Belgium (grave ref. III.J.8).
