Ernest Haywood was born in 1890 the son of John Edward a stores keeper at Players tobacco factory and Kate Haywood (née Ringrose). John Edward was born in 1859 at Hyson Green and died in 1912 at Nottingham aged 52. Kate Ringrose was born in 1861 at Nottingham and died in 1905 aged 44. Married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had the following children - John Edward b.1888, Ernest b.1890, Blanche b.1892, May b.1893, Ada b.1894, Leslie b.1899 and Kate b.1900. In 1911, they lived at 101, Salisbury Street, Radford, Nottingham. Ada worked at Players, Mary kept house, Leslie and Kate were at school. Also living at the address was Harriett Ringrose (78) John’s widowed mother in law. Ernest has not been traced in 1911. Ernest’s estate was divided between his siblings, Blanche Haywood, May Davis, Ada Kenyon, Kate Haywood, Leslie Haywood and sister in law Jessie Haywood (Soldiers’ Effects Register).
Ernest Haywood enlisted at Nottingham and is buried in Guards' Cemetery, Lesboeufs. Grave Reference: X Y 2
