Stephen Lee

Stephen Lee was born in 1893 in Hucknall and was the son of Harry a coal miner and Emily Lee née Richards of High Street, Arnold, Nottingham. His father Harry was born in 1868 in Calverton and his mother Emily Richards was born in 1872 in Dudley, Staffordshire, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 10 children, however sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were :- Stephen b1893 Hucknall, Harry b1894 Hucknall, William b1902 Hucknall, Edward b1903 Hucknall, Arthur b1905 Arnold and Samuel b1907 Arnold. In the 1911 census the family are living at High Street, Arnold and are shown as Harry 43 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Emily 39 yrs and their children Stephen 18 yrs a coal miner, Harry 17 yrs a coal miner, William 9 yrs a scholar, Edward 8 yrs a scholar, Arthur 6 yrs and Samuel 4 yrs also living at the address is Gertrude Lee 17 yrs a blouse finisher born at Hucknall a sister. Stephen married his wife Hannah Brown in 1912 , their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. They lived at 47 George Street, Hucknall and went on to have 2 children, Lily born 29th March 1913 and Emily born 30th May 1914. Following his death his widow Hannah was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 12th November 1917.
