Thomas Percy Hallam was born in 1898 at Newark and was the son of Thomas a maltsters labourer and Anne Mary Hallam nee Bailey of 5 Queen Street Warsop Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas was born in 1869 at Car Colston and his mother Anne Mary Bailey was born in 1878 at Nottingham, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Loughborough Registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Newark, Thomas Percy b1898, William Ernest b1900, Albert b1902, Frederick b1904, Gertrude b1906, and George b1909. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Dukes Row, Parliament Street, Newark and are shown as Thomas 41 yrs a maltsters labourer he is living with his wife Ann Mary 33 yrs and their children, Thomas Percy 13 yrs a scholar, William Ernest 11 yrs a scholar, Albert 9 yrs a scholar, Frederick 7 yrs a scholar, Gertrude 5 yrs and George 2 yrs of age.
Private Thomas Percy Hallam enlisted at Mansfield in January 1915 whilst residing at Warsop he initially served with the service number 14971 with the Lancashire Regiment, he was serving with the 25th Company, Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action on 16th August 1917 he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
His father Thomas Snr served with the Royal Defence Corps and was demobilised on 08/03/1919. Born at Newark, he attended Christchurch school until he left for Warsop with his parents. A miner at Warsop Main Colliery before enlisting in Jan. 1915. Had been in France for two years before being killed in action
