Family History

George Coleman was born in 1884 the son of the late John Straw Coleman a frame work knitter and Elizabeth Bowler Coleman née Henstock of 25 Duke Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire and the brother of Harry, Jim, Maria, Alice, Maggie and Fred Coleman. John Straw was born in 1849 he died in 1900 aged 51 yrs, Elizabeth Bowler Henstock was born in 1849 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, married on 9th July 1870 at Sutton in Ashfield they went on to have 11 children. In 1911 the family are living at 25 Duke Street, Sutton in Ashfield. ,

Military History

Private George Coleman enlisted on 29th October 1914 at Mansfield. He went to France 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, 27th March 1918, whilst in the line near Vrely, France. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France. Panel 52 to 54.
