Samuel Bramley (junior) was born in 1885 the son of Samuel Bramley (senior) a coal miner hewer and Ann Bramley née Osborne and the brother of Alice, and Florence of Sutton in Ashfield. Samuel Bramley (senior) was born in 1842 at Sutton in Ashfield, Ann Osborne was born in 1861 at Whitwick, Leicestershire, married on 10th May 1879 at Tibshelf they went on to have 9 children, sadly 6 were to die in infancy or early childhood. Samuel Bramley (junior) married his wife Alice Warren (born 22nd September 1887) on 25th April 1905 at Sutton in Ashfield, they lived at 23 Brook Street, Sutton in Ashfield they had a daughter Phyllis Eveline born 26th June 1905. In 1911 Samuel Bramley (junior) was living at Rhodes Yard, Brook Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire with his parents and his wife and daughter Commencing 31st January 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week. His widow re married on 29th December 1917 to John Thomas King.
Rifleman Samuel Bailey initially enlisted on 8th September 1914 at Sutton in Ashfield, giving his age as 29 yrs and 11 months and giving his occupation as that of a coal miner. Given the service number 5270 he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was however discharged from the Army on 27th October 1914 as being not likely to become an efficient soldier. He later enlisted and served with the King's Royal Rifle Corps and died of wounds on 25th May 1915, his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
