Family History

Henry William was born in 1885 the son of Henry Miller a coal miner/hewer and Phoebe Miller (née Hillyard). Henry senior was born in 1868 at Derby, Phoebe in 1864 at Nottingham. Married in 1882 at Nottingham, they had 10 children 8 of whom died in infancy or early childhood prior to 1911. Their only other surviving child, Annie, was born 1889 in Nottingham. In 1891, they lived at 14, Turn's Yard, Ilkeston Road, Radford, in 1901, at 29, Sun Hill Sneinton and in 1911 at 8, Virginia Street Sneinton (all Nottingham).

Killed April 10 by a stray bullet while on sentry.’ Bois Grenier Communal Cemetery, Grave Reference: A 3 Research by Peter Gillings Id confirmed by Soldiers' Effects Register (father and sister's names) Henry William Miller's identification as H Miller on the All Souls memorial is based on his address in 1891 (when the census recorded him as Henry W). It is assumed he spent some of his childhood and schooldays in this Radford parish. David Nunn
