George Baines Willbond (junior) was born in 1897 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, and was the son of George Baines Willbond (senior) a builders merchant and Grace Elizabeth Willbond nee Picken 0f 77 Radford Boulevard, Nottingham. His father George Baines was born in 1862 in Nottingham and his wife Grace Elizabeth Picken was born in 1874 also in Nottingham, they were married in 1894 in Nottingham and went on to have 5 children, sadly two of whom died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were : George Baines (junr) b1897 Birmingham, Harold Walter b1900 Radford and Ida Buchanan b1907 Radford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 77 Radford Boulevard, Nottingham and are shown as George Baines 49 yrs a builders merchant, he is living with his wife Grace 37 yrs and their children George Baines 14 yrs, Harold Walter 11 yrs and Ida Buchanan 4 yrs.

Military History

Private George Willbond, enlisted at Nottingham and served in the 12/13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, He landed in France on 9th September 1915 and he died of wounds on 11th April 1918 he is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery.

Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 1th April 1918 :- WILLBOND. – Died April 11th of wounds received in action 28th March, George Willbond, Northumberland Fusiliers, aged 21, dearly loved son of George and Grace Willbond, Radford-boulevard.” Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 15th April 1918 :- “WILLBOND. – Died of wounds April 11th, 1918, Pte.
