Harry Wright was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the husband of Maria Rawson (born 11th June 1885,) in 1905 at Nottingham, and the father of Arthur Henry born 1906, Harry born 1908 (died 1916 aged 8 yrs ) Mabel Ivy born 1910, Florence born 1912 and Stanley Wright born 1916. They lived at 60 Citadel Street Radford Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 60 Citadel Street, Radford, Nottingham and are shown as Harry Wright 30 yrs a window cleaner, he is living with his wife Maria 25 yrs and their children, Arthur Henry 4 yrs, Harry 3 yrs and Mabel Ivy 7 months old. Following his death his widow Maria was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 22nd July 1918.
Private Harry Wright, served with the 17th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Welbeck Rangers), enlisting on 8th December 1915 at Nottingham he gave his address as 60 Citadel Street, Nottingham, his age as 35 yrs and 4 months and his occupation as a master window cleaner, his next of kin was his wife Maria of the same address, he was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 30th January 1917 . He went to France 2nd May 1917 and was posted to the 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. On the 7th October he was posted to the 17th 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and joined them on the 6th November 1917. He was killed in action, 11th November 1917, aged 37, whilst in the line at Tower Hamlets, near Polygon Wood, Belgium. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. In memoriam published 11th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WRIGHT. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Pte. Harry Wright (late window cleaner, Radford), presumed killed November 11th, 1917.
