Tom Truswell was born in 1896 at Radford and was the son of Ann Elizabeth Truswell née Sills and the late John George Truswell s boiler maker of 64 Citadel Street, Old Radford, Nottingham. His father John George was born in 1867 at Nottingham, he died in 1908 at Nottingham aged 41 yrs, his mother Ann Elizabeth Sills was born in 1867 at Nottingham, they were married in 1894 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Ada b1894, Tom b1896, John b1899, Annie b1902, Henry b1904 and Harriet Truswell b1904 all were born in Radford In the 1911 census the family lived at 5 Prince Street Radford Nottingham and are shown as Ann Elizabeth 44 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Ada 17 yrs a chemist packer, Tom 15 yrs a grocers errand boy, John 12 yrs a scholar, Annie 9 yrs a scholar, Henry 7 yrs and Harriett 2 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Tom Truswell enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 and is buried at Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel
