James Tomlinson was born in 1892 the son of John [b. Dudley 1865] a coal miner and Clara Tomlinson [née Powis b. Darleston Staffordshire 1867]. Married in 1887, they had five children, James's surviving siblings were - Alfred b.1889, John W b.1889 and Harold b.1896. They lived at 51 Kennington Road Radford in 1911. John was a miner, John W a stationary engine driver and Henry a tobacco lifter's apprentice.
