Family History

John Henry Tempest was born in 1883 at Nottingham and was the son of the late Charles a carpenter/wheelwright and Sarah Tempest née Bee of 63 Salisbury Street, Nottingham. His father Charles was born in 1848 in Horbing, Lincolnshire, he died in 1918 aged 67 yrs, his mother Sarah Ann Bee was born in 1856 at Nottingham and died in 1915, she was 59 yrs of age, they were married in 1878 at Nottingham and had the following children, Amos b1881, Charles Parkes b1882 and John Henry b1883, all were born in Nottingham. John Henry married Esther May (Emily) Ward born 1884 they lived at 63 Salisbury Street, Nottingham and had two children, Charles Henry b1909 and Elsie b1911 In the 1911 census the family lived at 11, Hamilton Terrace, Bramcote Street, Radford, Nottingham and were shown as John Henry Tempest 28 yrs a corporation general labourer, he is living with his wife Emily 26 yrs and their children Charles Henry 1 year and Elsie 1 month old. Following his death his widow Emily was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 14th April 1919.

Military History

Private John Henry Tempest enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed attacking Lechelle on 18th September 1918 and is buried at Villers Hill British Cemetery, France.
