Family History

Henry Smith was born in 1891 at Nottingham and was the son of the late George Smith a lace machine fitter and Priscilla Smith née Rodwell of 16 Annfield Terrace, Denman Street, Radford. His father George was born in 1857 at Nottingham, he died in 1904 aged 46 yrs, his mother Priscilla Rodwell was born in 1861 at Macclesfield in Cheshire, they were married in 1891 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 6 were to died in infancy or early childhood, their other surving child was Alfred born 1897 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Annfield Terrace, Denman Street, Nottingham, and are shown as Pricilla 49 yrs a widow and cotton slip winder, she is living with her sons Henry 19yrs a telephone engineer and Alfred 14 yrs working in a stores dept

Military History

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. He qualified for the 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Register of soldiers' effects: His mother was his sole legatee.
