He was the son of Mary Skerritt of 60 Bulwer Road, Radford, Nottingham (CWGC).

Military History

Private William Skerritt, served with the 8th Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment, He landed in France on 27th August 1915 and he was killed in action on 1st July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 16 October 1916: 'Skerritt. Missing since July 1st 1916 now reported killed in action, Private WW Skerritt, Yorks and Lancaster, age 28. Mother, father, family.' Register of Soldiers' Effects: his mother, Mary, was his legatee.
