Family History

Richard Robert Pearce was born in 1875 at Nottingham and was the son of the late William and Charlotte Pearce née Henson, they were married in 1870 at Nottingham and his father died in 1880 . His mother re married in 1885 to William Porter, the marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration district. In the 1911 census his mother Charlotte Porter is living at 18 Thyra Grove , Beeston with her husband William and her family. Richard married his wife Maria Beatrice Dykes on 15th February 1980, they had the following children, Sarah Gertrude born 1909, Charlotte born 1910 and Ralph William born 1914. In the 1911 census the family lived at 41, Ilkeston Road Nottingham and are shown as Richard Robert 35 yrs a plumber he is living with his wife Maria Beatrice 28 yrs and their children Sarah Gertrude 2 yrs and Charlotte 4 months old. His wife Maria later moved to 54, Redoubt Street, Radford, Nottingham). Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 22nd November 1915.

Military History

Private Richard Robert Pearce, 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action 12th March 1915. He is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial, France.Panel 26 and 27 Pearce served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment between 22nd May 1898 and 26th May 1914. Re-enlisting, this time in the Sherwood Foresters, on 26th September 1914, he landed in France as a reinforcement to 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment on 10th December 1914. Sentenced to 21 days Field Punishment no. 1 for being absent from the trenches, drunk, on 4th March 1915, he was killed in action 12th March 1915.
