He was the stepson of Edward and Rosina Adderley. In 1911 they lived at 37 Marcus Street Lenton Boulevard and later at 46 Radford Boulevard (both Nottingham).

Private Thomas Maxfield, 1/7th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), was killed in action on 16th March 1917. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
