Family History

He was the son of Henry and Ellen Foster and the brother of Albert Henry, Lewis, Doris and William Foster. In 1911 they lived at 12 Mafeking Street Sneinton Nottingham. He was the husband of Rosa (née Stanley) Foster and the father of Stanley Foster.

Military History

Private Joseph Foster, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was a pre war regular who landed in France with the battalion on 8th September 1914 and who was reported missing since 20th October 1914, he was confirmed as having been killed in action on that date on 30th June 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
