He was the eldest son of Richard and Elizabeth Garton of 40 Radford Boulevard, Nottingham. He was the brother of Lily and Doris Garton. His father predeceased him. Leonard was engaged to Mary.

Military History

He enlisted (37423) into the East Yorkshire Regiment 7/2/1915 1nd was transferred next day to the Reserve. He was mobilsed and poated 4/3/1916 but re-transferred to the Reserve 6/3/1916. He was re-mobilised 3/4/1917 and posted to the Depot 16/4/1917. He was posted to 2/5th Bn 20/4/1917 and embarked from the UK 3/1/1918. He was transferred to the Durham Light Infantry and posted to 7th Bn 6/1/1918. He died of wounds in 6th General Hospital, France. St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, Grave Reference: P IX E 6B
