George Edward Edson

George Edward Edson was born in 1886 at Stapleford and was the son of Edward a colliery engine winder and Elizabeth Edson née Barsby of 374 Denman Street, Nottingham. His father Edward was born in 1861 at Wollaton, his mother Elizabeth Barsby was born in 1861 at Sandiacre they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Hannah b1883 Sandiacre, Edward b1886 Stapleford, Sidney b1891Radord, Ann b1897 Radford and Gertrude b1903 Radford. George married his wife Betsy Herrett (born 10th January 1886 ) in 1909 at Nottingham they lived at 15 Scarcliffe Terrace , Radford, they went on to have the following children, Sidney born 28th October 1910, Joseph born 17th June 1912 and George Edson born 23rd November 1914. In the 1911 census the family lived at 7 Duke Street, Radford and were shown as George Edson 25 yrs a coal miner/dealer he is living with his wife Betsy 25 yrs and their son Sidney 8 months of age. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 374 Denman Street, Nottingham and are shown as Edward 50 yrs a colliery engine winder, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 50 yrs and their children, Hannah 28 yrs a cycle cleaner, Sidney 20 yrs a coal miner hewer, Ann 14 yrs a cycle cleaner and Gertrude 8 yrs of age. Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence which commenced on 16th April 1917. His widow later re married on 7th April 1917 to Thomas Rawson.
