Ernest Brewster was born in 1881 at Radford and was the son Frederick and Mary Ann Brewster, of 3, Bulwer Road, Radford, Nottingham. Ernest Brewster married his wife Catherine Whalley (born 17th November 1878 ) in 1903 at Nottingham, they lived at 10a Ledger Yard, Ilkeston Road, Nottingham, They went on to have the following children, Ida born 10th July 1903, Nellie born 27th July 1905, May born 21st February 1911 and Mar born 1st January 1916. In 1911 they lived at 15 Althorpe Street New Radford Nottingham and are shown as Ernest 30 yrs a plumbers labourer, he is living with his wife Catherine 32 yrs and their children, Ida 7 yrs, Nellie 5 yrs and May 1 month old. .
Private Ernest Brewster, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, He was killed in action, 22nd March 1918, aged 37, during the German offensive near Hermies, France and is buried at Beaulencourt British Cemetery, Ligny-Thilloy, France.
