Family History

George Samuel Allen was born in 1896 the only son of Francis, a plumber, and Gertrude Allen (née Coupe) of 1, Co-operative Avenue, Hucknall. His father was born in 1875, his mother in 1876, both at Hucknall. They were married in 1895. In 1911 they were living at 33 High Street, Hucknall.

Military History

George Samuel Allen initially enlisted on 25th March 1915 when he was 19 and served with 12th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was promoted to corporal on 1st October 1917 and sergeant on 1st April 1918. He served on the Western Front but later transferred to the Royal Air Force where he served as a sergeant instructor with 2nd Squadron Boys' Wing Training Establishment, based at RAF Cranwell. He died of pneumonia at Lincoln County Hospital.
