David was born in 1878 the son of Henry a furnace worker and Ann Ball (née Straw). His father was born in 1848 at Warsop, Nottinghamshire, his mother in 1848 at Mexborough, Yorkshire. They were married in 1867 and they had the following children - George Henry b.1868 Rotherham, Arthur Thomas b.1869 Rotherham, Samuel b.1870 Mexborough, Ann b.1872 Mexborough, Aaron b.1873 Mexborough, David b.1878 Mexborough, Israel John b.1882 Mexborough. In 1911, David lived with his father at 76, Raby Street, Tinsley, Sheffield. David’s effects of £104/17/6d were left to his father (Probate Wakefield 12/7/1917).

Military History

David Ball attested at Sheffield on 2nd March 1916. He was 39 and lived at 12 Harrogate Road, Attercliffe, Sheffield. He was called up on the 6th February 1917 and posted to the Royal Engineers. He was passed fit for general service but not for service abroad. It would appear that in February 1917 he was either living with or visiting his married sister Ann Chatfield at 1 Mill Road, Stapleford where he developed influenza and died of heart failure on 25th February 1917. He was buried on 28th February 1917 at Stapleford Cemetery.
