Lawrence Jones was the son of George Alfred Jones and Sarah Ann Moore who married at Nottingham in 1881. They had six children: Silas James (b.1881), Lawrence (b.1884), Arthur (b.1885), Mabel Sylvester (b.1888), Frank (b.1891) and Edgar (b.1895). The family lived at 33, Radford Boulevard in 1891 and 1911. George Alfred Jones, who worked as an engraver, died at Nottingham aged 42 in 1894 (before his youngest son Edgar was born). It is not known when Eliza Ann Jones died. In 1911, Lawrence Jones married Ellen Hallam at Nottingham. They had one daughter: Doris May (b.1913). His widow lived at 44 Ewart Road, Forest Fields [Army Service Records & CWGC].
Private Lawrence Jones, enlisted on 29th April 1904 aged 19 yrs “B” Company, 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he landed in France on 8th September 1914 he was wounded and taken prisoner on 22nd March 1918. He died of those wounds in German hands on 5th April 1918. Buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery,
