Family History

Tom Sylvester was born in 1897 and was the son of William Sylvester a lace card puncher and his second wife Lizzie Sylvester née Ward of 17 Addington Road, Hartley Road, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1849 at Lenton, he married his first wife Mary Cheadle born 1849 in 1872 at Nottingham, she died in 1887 they had 6 children. Following her death his father remarried in 1888 to Lizzie Ward she was born in 1863, they went on to have the following children, Bertie b1888 George b1889, Constance b1892, Richard b1894 and Tom b1897 all were born in Radford. His mother Lizzie Sylvester died in 1900, she was 37 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Addington Road, Hartley Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 62 yrs a widow and lace card puncher, he is living with his children, Elsie 26 yrs a laundress, George 21 yrs a tobacco worker, Constance 18 yrs a restaurant waitress, Richard 16 yrs an errand boy and Tom 14 yrs a grocers errand boy.

Military History

Private Tom Sylvester enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds on 26th May 1917 he is buried at Grand-Seraucourt British Cemetery, France. Plot 6. Row J. Grave 5.
