Family History

John Cyril Lowe was baptised on 6th June 1897 at St Barnabus Church, Derby, he was the son of Henry Lowe a stationary engine driver and Alice Lowe née Baugh of Albert Street, Stanton on the Hill His father Henry was born in 1872 at Kirk Langley, Derbyshire his mother Alice Baugh was born in 1870 at Dawley, Shropshire, they were married on 28th September 1895 they had a further son Archie Henry born 1901 at Skegby. In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Albert Street, Stanton Hill Henry 39 yrs is a stationary engine driver, he is living with his wife Alice 40 yrs and their 2 sons, John Cyril 13 yrs an errand boy and Archie Henry 9 years of age.

Military History

Private John Cyril Lowe enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield whilst residing at Stanton Hill, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 1st September 1917, having no known grave jis name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Memorial.
