George Victor Dunn was born in 1887 the eldest son of Mary and George Dunn. In 1891 George Victor was living with his father aged 38, who was employed as a coachman, his mother aged 28 and his younger sister Hilda aged 11 months at 2 Lenton Avenue (The Park) Nottingham. By 1901, the family included 9 year old Harry and they lived at 54 Alfred Road South, St Ann's, Nottingham. Also George Rockley aged 26 years employed as a carter and born in Farndon and his 22 year old wife Annie born in Nottingham and working as a lace hand at home were listed as boarders at this address. In 1911 they lived at 93, Ilkeston Road, Nottingham. Hilda was employed as a turner-off, hosiery and Harry was a warehouseman. On the 2nd June 1912 George Victor Dunn married Ada Marshall and on 11th June 1914 their son Frederick was born. By 26th January 1916 George Dunn was living at the Lord Nelson Hotel, Carlton Street, Nottingham and by 13th June 1918 at Rose Cottage, Woodborough
On the 23 March 1915 George Victor Dunn enlisted into the Army Service Corps and became a dispatch rider. He was aged 28 years 11 months, employed as a chauffeur and living at 45 Vicarage Street, Nottingham. In June 1915, he was wounded near Ypres and repatriated (Monday 19th June) to a hospital at Lincoln. He was discharged from the army 31/12/1915.
