He was the son of Thomas Alfred Jackson a clerk and collector of gas rents with Nottingham Corporation. He was the brother of Harold Egbert, Ida Winifred, Wilfred Arthur, Reginald Edmund and Francis Edwin Jackson. In 1911 they lived at 828 Woodborough Road and later at 'Westward Ho!' (both Mapperley Plains Nottingham).
Bombardier John Edgar Jackson, served with 135th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, he died of wounds in the 2nd London Field Ambulance on 28th March 1918. He is buried in Roclincourt Military Cemetery.
Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 28th March 1919 :- “JACKSON. – In ever-loving memory of our dear brother Edgar, who died of wounds, March 28th, 1918.
