Extra Information

In June, 1916 the battalion was holding trenches near Givenchy and the war diary shows only one casualty list between the 1st and 24th June. The entry for the 3rd June shows that casualties during the past 5 days were 4 other ranks killed and 11 wounded. The battalion spent time in and out of the trenches during this month being at Gorre and Ferme Du Roi. Presumably John was wounded between the 30th May and 3rd June. Above information from Cliff Housley In memoriam published 25th June 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post: “JEFFERY. – In loving memory of Jack, the beloved son of Jennie and Jack Jeffery, Red Hill, who died of wounds received in action, June 24th, 1916.
