Frank Lees was born Third Quarter 1892 Hucknall Torkard and was the son of James Richard and Mary Lees of 39 Annesley Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire On 1901 Census he is living with his parents and siblings – James William, Leonard and Herbert - at 39, Annesley Road, Hucknall. His father is listed as a colliery check weighman On 1911 Census he is living with his parents and sibling – Herbert - at 39, Annesley Road, Hucknall. His father is listed as a colliery check weighman and Frank as a Shetland wool worker
Private Frank Lees, served with the 1/1st South Notts Hussars, he died of tuberculosis on 28th November 1916 and is buried in Hucknall Cemetery. He had fallen ill while serving in Egypt, being diagnosed initially with enteric fever and then tuberculosis. Leaving Egypt for England on 15th October 1915, he appeared before a medical board on 27th January 1916. Found to be permanently unfit for service, Lees was discharged from the Army on 11th February 1916.
