Family History

William Oxley was born on 19th May 1878 at Notting Hill, London, he was the son of the late Joseph a machinist and the late Elizabeth Oxley née Templeman of Queens Walk, Meadows, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1841 at Sheffield, he died in 1911 aged 70 yrs his mother Elizabeth Templeman was born in 1842 at Taunton, she died in 1918 at Nottingham, she was 86 yrs of age, they were married on 24th September 1864 at St Mary’s Church, Islington, they went on to have 9 children. William appears to have emigrated to Canada before the outbreak of the Great War.

Military History

Private William Oxley attested on 24th September 1914,at Valcartier, Quebec, Canada giving his age as 36 yrs and 4 months, his occupation was that of a salesman, his next of kin was his mother Elizabeth 3 Queens Walk, Meadows, Nottingham. He was killed in action on 19th July 1915, he is buried at Plogesteet Wood, Military Cemetery
