Family History

Harry Frost was born in 1886 at Mansfield and was the son of Henry a distiller and Kate Alice Frost née Lindley. His father Henry was born in 1859 at Mansfield, his mother Kate Alice Lindley was born in 1863 at Mansfield, they were married in 1880 at Mansfield and went on to have 12 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their children were Nellie b1880, Fred b1882, Harry b1886, Mary Ann b1888, Lizzie b1890 all were born in Mansfield, they had the following children all were born in Kilmarsh Eliza b1892, Annie b1895, Herbert b1890, Hilda b1902 and Ernest b1909. Harry married Alice Devenport (born 14th March 1885) on 23rd April 1909 at Mansfield, they had the following children, John Clifford born 29th December 1909, Alice born 3rd July 1911 and Frederick born 24th August 1913, they lived at 1 Botany, Mansfield In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Botany, Mansfield and were shown as Harry 22 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Alice 26 yrs and their son John Clifford 1 year of age. Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 6th March 1916.

Military History

Private Harry Frost enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the service number 12688 in the Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 23rd February 1915. He was killed in action on 10th March 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
