Family History

Harold Roland Hastings was born in 1897 the son of John Henry a school caretaker and Isabella Priscilla Hastings (née Cross.) His father was born in 1865 at Nottingham and his mother in 1870 in London. They were married in 1892 in Nottingham and had four children. Harold’s siblings were Bernard Henry b.1895, Maude b.1899 and Hilda b.1903. In 1911 they lived at 18 Hubert Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham.

Military History

Private 266219 Harold Hastings enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2/7th battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 27th September 1917, he is buried in Tyne Cott Cemetery grave reference XVIII.G.11
