He was the son of Joseph Bartholomew Good a sinker maker and his wife Ann Good (née Jones) Their father was born in 1868 in Nottingham and died 2/5/1915 aged 53. Their mother was born in 1870 also at Nottingham. Married c.1891, they had the following children all born at Nottingham, Beatrice Alice b.1892, Joseph b.1894 (killed in action 27/6/1916), Bartholomew b.1896, Edward b.1899 and Thomas b.1901. In the 1911 the family was living at 20 Frederick Terrace, Livingstone Street, St Ann’s. Ann, Beatrice Alice and Joseph worked in the lace industry and Bartholomew was an errand boy. After her husband’s death, Ann Good lived at 4 West Street, Ilkeston.
Bartholomew Good enlisted on 14th August 1914 at Derby giving his age as 18 years and 2 months. He landed in France on 1st March 1915. He is buried in Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery Grave Reference: I.C.16
