He was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Woodward and the brother of Louise, Adela and Leonard Woodward. In 1901 they lived at 67 Miall Street Radford Nottingham.
Private Alfred Woodward joined the 38th Battalion, Canadian Infantry on 22 June or 17 July 1915 - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda he landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded on 28 June 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 28 June 1917 - killed in action on 29 September 1918 - buried in Bourlon Wood Cemetery (grave II.A.14), France.
